General information
Indirect water bath heaters type VH are heat exchangers that can heat gas decentrally if no hot water preparation (e.g. a boiler system) is available. Heating the gas is necessary to counteract the Joule-Thomson effect when the pressure is reduced or to provide a defined gas temperature for the following system components.

The most common areas of application are
  • Gas field probes
  • Pipeline: at GDRM and compressor stations, cavern storage facilities, power plants

The design is a welded steel construction in horizontal design.
Function
An indirect waterbath heater is a combined heat exchanger equipped with a (HP) high-pressure tube bundle (natural gas preheating) and a burner firing unit (water preheating). The two areas are strictly separated from each other for safety reasons. The bottom-mounted firing unit and the top-mounted HP bundle result in natural circulation of the water (natural convection).

Water preheating

In the firing unit, water is heated by firing energy. For this purpose, fuel gas is taken from the main gas flow for firing. The unit consists of a flame tube, the deflection chamber and the return flue gas tubes. The flue gas collecting chamber is fitted with a chimney that can be dismantled for transportation purposes. The firing unit is fitted with a sound-insulated housing. The combustion efficiency is approx. 92%.

The water jacket is atmospheric as standard and is fitted with a dome as a water-side expansion volume. The dome also serves as an inspection opening for visual inspection of the pipe bundles.

Natural gas preheating

The gas-carrying HP bundle is located above the burner chamber in the water bath. The preheated water heats the gas. The HP bundle consists of the external gas inlet and outlet chamber with the corresponding nozzles and the internal heat transfer tubes.

Burner

Firing is achieved by using a forced draught gas burner. These are used due to their excellent combustion values with high emission requirements.

Fuel gas pressure reduction

A pressure reduction is provided as standard for the fuel gas. This is designed in one or two stages for the corresponding operating data and equipped with safety shut-off valves (SSV) based on this. A safety relief valve (SBV) is provided after each pressure reduction stage.

Regulation

The complete heater unit is monitored with an electrical/electronic control system suitable for the forced-air gas burner and can be connected to the higher-level control system.

  • Our appliances are tested in accordance with AD 2000 regulations and CE-certified in accordance with EC/PED 2014/68/EU. Testing is carried out by approved experts (TÜV etc.).
  • Test and material certificates are issued by the experts in accordance with the design regulations.
  • The burner control is based on the safety concept in accordance with DIN EN 746-2.
