General information
A high-performance cyclone separator VZA or VMZA is used to clean gas from dry and liquid contaminants. The design is a welded steel construction in a vertical design.
Function
The single-stage high-performance cyclone separator uses the centrifugal principle to filter solid and liquid particles from the gas flow. It is maintenance-free with an appropriate discharge system. The gas flows through the inlet nozzle into the filter housing and is rotated radially by an axial cyclone or multi-cyclone. Coarse particles are thrown against the container wall by centrifugal force and slide into the lower dust and liquid collection chamber. The separation efficiency increases as the specific density of the dirt particles increases and the flow velocity increases. The pressure loss increases accordingly as the flow velocity increases. A centered immersion tube with paddle wheels transports the cleaned gas into the gas outlet. Shielding of the collection chamber prevents the separated particles from being whirled up and entrained.

Medium

The reliable separation of solid and liquid contaminants from gaseous media is essential in numerous industrial applications. Cyclone separators are used in particular where moist gases such as natural gas, biogas, hydrogen, process gas, LNG gas, nitrogen or air need to be cleaned efficiently. Thanks to their special design, they generate a rotating flow that separates particles and liquid droplets using centrifugal forces before the purified gas is processed further.

Used in the chemical, petrochemical and polymer industries as well as in natural gas extraction, cyclone separators offer a proven solution for removing oil mist, condensates and solid particles. They are also indispensable in food production, shipbuilding and special maritime and industrial applications. The robust design and low-maintenance operation ensure reliable function even under demanding process conditions.

Thanks to their high separation efficiency, cyclone separators help to improve system availability and extend the service life of downstream components. They prevent corrosion, deposits and performance losses in pipelines, heat exchangers and compressors. This makes them an economical and efficient solution for companies that rely on a high level of gas purity.

Areas of application

Cyclone separators are used in a wide range of applications in the filtration and preheating of natural gas and other technical gases, particularly in the high-pressure range. They are an essential component in the gas industry as they remove unwanted solid and liquid particles from gases, ensuring their quality and purity. The robust design of these separators makes them ideal for use in demanding environments such as those found in petrochemical plants, refineries and power stations. Here, cyclone separators contribute to the safe and efficient treatment of natural gas before it is further processed or used.

Cyclone separators are also used in industrial processes where technological gases need to be filtered. Whether at high pressures, low temperatures or aggressive media - these separators offer reliable performance and flexibility. Their maintenance-free design and adaptability to specific requirements make them the first choice for companies looking for an efficient and durable solution for gas filtration in the high-pressure range.

Industries

Cyclone separators are used in a variety of industries where efficient separation of solids, liquids and aerosols from gaseous media is required. In the chemical, petrochemical and polymer industries in particular, they play a crucial role in removing impurities from process gases and ensuring the operational safety of plants.

Another important field of application is natural gas extraction, where cyclone separators help to reliably remove condensates, oil mist and particles from the gas flow. This protects downstream components such as compressors and heat exchangers and increases the efficiency of gas processing.

Cyclone separators are also used in the food industry , for example to clean process air or to separate unwanted particles from production gases. Their high separation efficiency also makes them a proven solution for shipbuilding and maritime applications, where they ensure reliable gas purification under demanding conditions.

Cyclone separators are also indispensable in numerous industrial and special applications . In the process industry , they ensure consistent gas quality and contribute to the efficiency and longevity of production plants. Thanks to their versatile adaptability, they are an economical solution for a wide range of industries with the highest gas purity requirements.

General conditions

Cyclone separators must meet the specific requirements of a wide range of industries. Depending on the area of application and process conditions, customized solutions are required that comply with both international and national regulations. These include ASME (with or without U-stamp) for the international market, EN 13445 for Europe, SVTI for Switzerland, AS1210 for Australia and PD5500 for the UK.

In addition to compliance with these standards, cyclone separators can be subjected to specific tests and approvals by renowned companies and institutions. These include BASF, OGE, Gascade, Sasol, INGL, ERI, Dolphin, Saudi Aramco, Gasco, MAN, Jenbacher, MAPNA, Siemens and DONG.

Technically, the separators are designed for a wide range of operating conditions. They are suitable for use in sour gas applications in accordance with NACE standards and are designed for low temperatures down to -50 °C as well as for high temperatures up to 250 °C. With a maximum operating pressure of up to 300 bar, they offer a reliable solution for demanding processes.

In addition, cyclone separators can be equipped with a customer-specific nozzle arrangement to enable optimum integration into existing plants and piping systems. This flexibility ensures a customized solution for a wide range of industrial requirements.

Materials

Choosing the right material is crucial for the performance and longevity of cyclone separators. Depending on the application and process conditions, different materials are available that are tailored to the specific requirements.

Cyclone separators can be made of carbon steel, stainless steel or a combination of both materials. Carbon steel offers high mechanical strength and is particularly suitable for applications with moderate ambient conditions, while stainless steel has excellent corrosion resistance and is ideal for aggressive media or moist process gases.

This wide variety of materials means that cyclone separators can be optimally adapted to individual operating conditions, providing a reliable and durable solution for a wide range of applications.
