Type VEV-DR / VEV-L-DR

Safety first - The safety heat exchanger from GTS!
Double-pipe heat exchangers—also known as double-pipe heat transfer units—have established themselves as a standard in the chemical industry, the energy sector, heavy and light industry, the oil and gas, marine, transportation, and refrigeration sectors, as well as in the food and beverage industry, where they are highly valued. As a manufacturer of double-pipe heat exchangers and safety heat exchangers, we offer innovative solutions with every safety heat exchanger for heat exchange between a medium that is harmful to the environment and a medium that is released back into the environment, or between two media that react with each other.

This results in the typical applications for industrial double-pipe heat exchangers, such as in the oil cooling of turbines, gearboxes, and compressors; in process water heating; in the wood industry; and in the chemical and petrochemical industries, where mixing must be strictly avoided for process reasons. Stainless steel double-pipe heat exchangers, in particular, are also suitable for demanding environments with high requirements for corrosion resistance.

Double-Pipe Heat Exchangers: General Information
Double-pipe heat exchangers are used in industries where the highest safety requirements for heat exchange must be met. A media-separated heat exchanger meets precisely this requirement.
How Our Double-Pipe Heat Exchangers Work
Double-pipe heat exchangers provide safe heat exchange for media that are hazardous to the environment and human health, thanks to their double-pipe system, the monitored safety chamber, and the double pipe wall. They comply with strict legal regulations, reduce the risk of leaks, and protect both the environment and plant personnel.

The integrated leak monitoring system enables a rapid response to leaks, thereby preventing operational interruptions and production downtime, with a differential pressure gauge capable of measuring the pressure differential for condition monitoring. Such a heat exchanger with leak monitoring is designed as a double-walled heat exchanger in which the safety space between the two tube walls is continuously monitored. Thanks to low pressure drop and efficient heat transfer, they remain highly efficient and cost-effective.

Materials for Double-Pipe Heat Exchangers: From Carbon Steel to Titanium

THIELMANN ENERGIETECHNIK GmbH develops and manufactures high-precision double-pipe heat exchangers that are used in a wide variety of industrial applications worldwide. A key factor in the durability, operational reliability, and efficiency of our heat exchangers is the careful selection of suitable materials—tailored to the medium, temperature, pressure, and industry-specific requirements.

A wide range of materials for individual requirements

Our double-pipe heat exchangers are available in a wide variety of materials and can be manufactured either entirely from a single material or using a combination of different materials. This flexibility allows us to implement solutions that are precisely tailored to the respective operating conditions.

The following materials are used particularly frequently:

  • Carbon steel: Ideal for standard applications with low to moderate corrosion requirements. Carbon steel is characterized by high mechanical strength and cost-effectiveness—particularly in water, oil, or air applications under normal conditions.
  • Stainless steel: (e.g., 1.4571 / 316Ti, 1.4404 / 316L) Stainless steel alloys offer excellent corrosion protection and are the first choice for aggressive media, high hygiene requirements, or thermally demanding processes. They are used, among other things, in the chemical industry, food processing, and in maritime and pharmaceutical applications.
  • Material combinations of carbon steel and stainless steel: In many applications, selective material use makes sense—for example, when there are different requirements on the primary and secondary sides. For example, the inner tube (which carries the medium) can be made of corrosion-resistant stainless steel, while the outer protective tube is made of robust carbon steel. This enables an optimal balance between cost, functionality, and durability.

Special materials available upon request

In addition to standard and composite materials, THIELMANN ENERGIETECHNIK GmbH also offers solutions using special materials, such as for high-temperature applications, acidic gases (in accordance with NACE), or when the medium places particular stress on the material. These include, among others:
